Planned Parenthood Receives $6,600 Check From New Chaffee County Group

A completely brand new group meeting for the first time has decided that its first donation would be given to the Rocky Mountains Planned Parenthood.

The group, Chaffee County Women Who Care, agreed that a $6,600 check would be given to the center to help with STD testing at Salida Health Center.

Health center manager Shelley Schreiner talked with the Chaffee County Women Who Care group about the need for additional testing and treatment as well as the dedication of Planned Parenthood to offer everybody the best quality care they can provide. Planned Parenthood provides testing and treating to both patients and their partners, she said.

With the financial assistance from Chaffee County Women Who Care, patients can continue to get the health care services they need.

Schreiner said they appreciate the donation given by the Women Who Care group and the continuous dedication Chaffee County shows for the community’s health and making sure everybody has access to reproductive and sexual health care, regardless of what it is.

The Chaffee County Women Who Care group meets every three months, where members put names in a basket for non-profit organizations or projects they feel deserve funding. Three names are then drawn, and presentations heard about why they deserve the funding. Once the Q&A session is over, members cast their vote to determine which one gets the money. The one with the most wins and each member donates $100 to the cause.
