Both services run your samples through real, accredited labs, but they sit at different ends of the convenience spectrum. Labcorp through its OnDemand consumer service lets you choose between an in-person panel at one of its own centers or an at-home kit, including a $39 rapid syphilis test. STDcheck is a single STD-focused storefront that sends you to any of 4,500+ Quest or Labcorp centers and prioritizes speed, with most results in 1–2 days. If you want flexibility (and an at-home option) straight from a national lab, Labcorp fits; if you want the fastest in-person turnaround through a dedicated STD testing platform, STDcheck leads.

How each service works

With Labcorp OnDemand you order online with no appointment, an independent physician authorizes the order, then either visit one of 2,000+ Labcorp centers (plus 400+ inside Walgreens) or use an at-home self-collection kit. Lab results post to your Labcorp Patient portal in 1–4 days, while at-home rapid kits return a result in 15–30 minutes per Labcorp OnDemand. Both paths are self-pay, so nothing is billed to insurance.

STDcheck works as a reseller front end to the same major labs: you pay online, get an order, and walk into any of 4,500+ Quest and Labcorp centers for a blood draw and/or urine sample. Results land in your secure online account in 1–2 days per STDcheck. Both run through CLIA-certified laboratories, the same accredited facilities clinics and hospitals use under CLIA certification, so analytic quality is comparable; the differences are in menu, collection, and aftercare. You can start either from our get-tested guide.

Test menu compared

Both cover the core infections, HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and the hepatitis viruses, but they diverge on a few specifics. Labcorp's full menu includes trichomoniasis and Mycoplasma genitalium, plus separate herpes HSV-1 and HSV-2 testing. STDcheck's standard 10-test panel notably leaves out trichomoniasis and Mycoplasma genitalium (those move to its 13-test panel) but adds an early-detection HIV RNA option per STDcheck's panel details.

Price and value

STDcheck's 10-test panel runs $139 and individual tests range from about $24 for a hepatitis test to $129 for HIV RNA, with chlamydia or gonorrhea at $59 each and syphilis at $49 per STDcheck's pricing. Labcorp's at-home kits are its cheap entry point, a $39 OTC rapid syphilis test and a $149 Visby rapid PCR kit, but full in-person panels are pricier, with the Complete STI list at $489 (frequently discounted) per Labcorp OnDemand pricing. Both are self-pay and accept HSA/FSA. For a comparable broad panel, STDcheck's bundle is generally lower; for a single cheap rapid result, Labcorp's $39 syphilis kit is hard to beat. Privacy

Both are HIPAA-compliant and self-pay, meaning neither generates an insurance Explanation of Benefits. STDcheck lets you keep testing private and anonymous, with results stored in a secure account per STDcheck's privacy policy. Labcorp results post only to your Labcorp Patient portal. One historical caveat for Labcorp: a 2019 breach at billing vendor AMCA exposed data on roughly 7.7 million Labcorp patients as Labcorp disclosed. With either service, certain positive results are reported to public health authorities by the lab as required by law.

After a positive result

This is a meaningful difference. Labcorp OnDemand includes a free provider consult to interpret a positive in-person result: though standard consults don't prescribe treatment (the exception is the at-home Visby rapid PCR kit, which includes treating telehealth). STDcheck offers an optional physician phone consult for positives that costs about $95 and isn't obvious at checkout per STDcheck's consult terms. Neither replaces a treating provider for most infections, so for conditions like chlamydia, gonorrhea, or PID follow-up, plan to confirm treatment access. Because the CDC recommends prompt treatment and partner notification after a positive screen, factor consult cost into your decision per CDC screening guidance.

Who should choose Labcorp

Pick Labcorp OnDemand if you want to choose between an in-person panel and an at-home kit, if you want a cheap fast rapid result (the $39 OTC syphilis kit or 30-minute PCR), or if you'd rather order direct from a national lab than a reseller. It's also the better fit when trichomoniasis or Mycoplasma genitalium matters to you, since both are on its menu, and when a free positive-result consult adds value. Note it doesn't operate in Hawaii, Maine, or North Dakota.

Who should choose STDcheck

Choose STDcheck if speed and lab coverage are your priorities: results in 1–2 days, 4,500+ Quest and Labcorp centers, and an early-detection HIV RNA option. It's also one of the few services that screens minors aged 16–17 without parental consent. Just go in with eyes open on the ≈$95 positive-result consult and occasional upsells.
